The Big Twig Interview!

Okay, so it wasn't the easiest interview I've ever done. Not that Twig himself was difficult to get on with. Not at all. He was an absolute sweetie. But trying to get a hold of him! Honestly, I had to climb trees, race after him on his skateboard, track him down on his BMX. That boy is in constant motion - except when he's up a tree.
Anyway, your intrepid reporter, aka Maggi, that is ME, managed it in the end. And here's what he said...

Maggi: Hi Twig. Glad I've caught up with you at last. First Big Question. How old are you?

Twig: I'm thirteen.

Maggi: I know you live in Strathcarron with your dad and Megan and her mum. But where are you from?

Twig: From South Africa originally. My parents moved back to the UK when I was three. We lived in London for a couple of years, then moved to a house out in the country near Edinburgh when I was five.

Maggi: So what nationality are you?

Twig: I don't like labels. I'd rather see myself as a world citizen, I s'ppose.

Maggi: This next question's from a reader. What do you look for in a girlfriend?

Twig (smiling): I don't think I'm actually looking for anything!

Maggi: Okay, so what do you LIKE in a girl?

Twig (kinda shyly): I think she should be into the same things as me.

Maggi: So you want a skateboarding chica?

Twig (laughing): No…well…that is, it'd be fine if she did skateboard. But I was meaning more that she should care about the same things I do. Like looking after the environment and animals and yeah, being outdoors. That sort of thing.

Maggi:  Does what a girl looks like matter to you?

Twig: Course it does. But I don't think boys think the same as girls about what looks good and what doesn't.

Maggi: So what would be your nightmare date?

Twig: A girl that's more into how she looks than just being herself. Like, if she's always checking her hair or her make-up or wearing stupid shoes she can't even walk in... She'd have to have a really amazing personality to make up for all that! Oh, and if she chewed gum, or was bitchy about other girls, that would be THE END.

Maggi: What's your fave all-time thing to do?

Twig: Sitting up a tree cloud-watching... Or riding my BMX down a steep hill. Depends on my mood.

Maggi: Do you have a hero?

Twig: Yeah, Nelson Mandela. He did so much to change things in South Africa.  He's inspiring.

Maggi: Fave colour?

Twig: Green.

Maggi: What would you rather be, a lion or a dolphin?

Twig: Dolphin. I love the sea.

Maggi: Fave book?

Twig: I'm reading the The Chronicles of Ancient Darkness by Michelle Paver. They're really cool. I'd love to have a wolf-friend like Torak in the stories.

Maggi: The BIG QUESTION. What's your real name?

Twig (letting his hair fall over his eyes and smiling secretively): Sorry, Maggi. That's a state secret. I really can't tell you.

And here are your responses to the interview with Twig. And more questions for him!

Hi Maggi,

Oh My!

Twig... South African....knows about Nelson Mandela....  That made my day :) .

I think his real name is Leo. I have a question for him: " If you could have one wish, what would it be?".

*sigh* If only he were real...

Mishkah (in South Africa)

(thanks)

Hi Mishkah,

My one wish would be that people everywhere start caring about the planet and do something about it!

Thanks for asking me!

Peace and Love,

Twig

ps my real name's not Leo

pps who says I'm not real?! :)

And here are some interview questions from Seriously Sassy fans, Kaid and Deyna:

1.When did you start reading?

I was pretty late reading. I could do a few words at five or six, but it took me years to get to the point where I could read books on my own. I guess I like going outside to play too much!

2. Have you ever been in love?

Yeah, with my first dog, Bramble, when I was five! But I guess that's not what you're meaning...

3.Whats your fave singer?

If I don't say Sassy Wilde she'll kill me! I like all different kinds of music and, cos I'm a bit of a retro kid I love old stuff like Bob Dylan. Right now my fave is probably Paulo Nutini.

4.Why?

I love the way Paulo writes lyrics about real life. And I love the emotion he gets into his voice. I think it's cool too that he's not scared to sing in his real accent. He's from Paisley, near Glasgow and he doesn't try to sound American. He's individual, I guess.

5.Can you tell Sassy Deyna said hi?

Sure. And Sassy says 'Hi!' back!

6.Can you tell Cordelia Kaid said hi and that Kaid likes all your magic stuff?

Cordelia says you've both got fab names, just like her. To be honest, Cordelia freaks me sometimes with her magic stuff, but she's really cool to have as a friend.

7.Could you record you and Sassy singing to one of the songs please?

Cool idea! Would love to do that some time. But I think Sassy prefers singing solo - or with Phoenix Macleod!

8.Whats you fave type of animal?

Hard to say, cos I like all animals so much. But I guess the wolf is right up there at my number one spot.

9.Why?

I guess it's cos you get a lone wolf, and I'm a bit of a loner too. I think wolves have intelligent eyes, like they have some sort of ancient wisdom. And they can't be tamed. so I guess that's like me too.

10.Why do you think the sky is blue?

No idea. But I love days when it is blue, and wish we got more of them!

Thanks soooo much!

Thanks for asking such cool questions.

I have a question for Twig, and it's a question I am asking people about. You see, I can't quite work out whether nuclear power stations are bad or not. They are potentially lethal - but only potentially. They could destroy everything - maybe. They are fossil energy sources, so that they can't be used for ever. But they are cleaner than other energy sources.

I know there isn't really an answer, but I would like Twig's opinion, if he has one - and I couldn't imagine he hasn't. And it'd be cool to know what Sassy and Co think, too.

Thank you!

Anne-Marie

Hi Anne-Marie,

Yeah, this is a really hard one. I know James Lovelock, the scientist dude who first warned about global warming and who wrote the Revenge of Gaia, says he thinks nuclear power stations are the way forward. But I'm not so sure. A nuclear accident causes massive death and damage. I'd rather we didn't use nuclear anything.

And I don't think governments have tried hard enough to explore wind, wave and solar power sources. Or that we do enough to use less power. Look at all the electricity we waste on lighting up public buildings and shops all night. I mean, what is all that about!

Thanks for sending me your question. And if you want to read more about the pros and cons of nuclear power click this link. But remember to come back to the Seriously Sassy website after, okay?

Peace and Love, man...
